Become a Volunteer

Jumpstart Assistant

Attend Jumpstart sessions once a week at Kirkland Correctional Institution and participate in small group discussions with the male CIU Prison Initiative students. The group discussions use the book, "The Purpose Driven Life."
Jumpstart programs also exist at Camille Graham (women), Lee, and Wateree (men) facilities.
Requirements: SCDC volunteer application and Jumpstart volunteer training session
Commitment: 40-week course

Transition Handbook Editor

Help collect feedback from users of the current edition of the handbook.
Ensure the information in the handbook is current, accurate, and relevant to returning citizens. Update the handbook as neccessary, then format and produce future editions.
Requirements: Computer, writing, editing, and design experience are helpful. Skills that require attention to detail are essential.
Commitment: Determined by volunteer.

T & T Course Leader

Be a small group leader for the pre-release curriculum once a week at Manning Correctional Institute (men) and serve as a mentor.
Requirements: SCDC volunteer application and T&T small group leader training.
Commitment: 12-week course, mentoring of citizens for about 6 months after course

Administrative/Communication Assistant

Help in areas including website updating, social media interaction, design of print material, database entry, and editing the course curriculums.
Requirements: Computer, writing, editing, and design experience are helpful. Social media marketing and general marketing experience is helpful.
Commitment: Determined by volunteer.
