volunteer opportunities

We would love to talk to you about using your gifts and skills to assist returning

citizens, recruit churches, and network resources in the Columbia area!

Please email our Administrator if you can help in any of these areas of ministry:

 

Jumpstart
 

Description: Volunteers would attend Jumpstart sessions and participate in small group discussions with CIU Prison Initiative students (all men). The group discussions use the book, "The Purpose Driven Life."
 

When: Monday afternoons from 1-3 pm

Where: Kirkland Correctional Institution, 4344 Broad River Rd

Who: Men or women welcome, but could really use more men

Requirements: Submit an SCDC volunteer application and complete one-time Jumpstart volunteer training session

Commitment: 40-week course started in January

Other opportunities: Jumpstart programs at Camille Graham (women’s facility), Lee, and Wateree (men’s) different days/times. Contact Jumpstart (888-403-3815) for more information on programs outside of Kirkland Correctional Institution.

 

T&T Course


Description: Volunteers would be a small group leader/ mentor for pre-release curriculum at Manning Correctional Institute (for men).


When: Thursdays 6:30-8:30 pm
Where: Manning Pre-release Center, 502 Beckman Rd Columbia

Who: Men (Women are welcome to come observe and gain experience so they can do this at a women’s facility.    T&T only endorses same-gender mentor relationships.)

Requirements: SCDC volunteer application and T&T Small group leader training

Commitment: 12 weeks for course; ~6 months afterward as mentor

 

Transition handbook


Description: Volunteers would help collect feedback from users of the current edition of the handbook of information we are giving as a pre and post release resource. Also verify information, update handbook, and format and produce future editions.
 

When: flexible

Where: flexible

Requirements: Some computer, word processing, editing, or design experience helpful.


General Administrative/Communications
 

Description: Volunteers can help in a variety of areas, including website, social media development, graphic design (event flyers, etc), printing, database entry, and editing and updating pre-release curriculum.

 

When: flexible

Where: flexible

Requirements: Could include computer, word processing, editing, communications, marketing, or design experience.
